Whatta ya think about this boy!
I was got selected by Chairbound Hunters and then by Wyoming to go on a mule deer hunt in east-central Wyoming this past October.
We arrived at Lusk, WY, one cool October afternoon and met a helluva nice guy by the name of Big Al. He was returning from taking another disabled hunter out rolled into the motel parking lot with an antelope buck in the back.
Well I was ready to go after that for sure.
Chairbound Hunters is a terrific little organization that takes out as many hunters as they can every fall in and around the Wheatland and Lusk area of WY. Big Al had an antelope tag for me to go with my buck tag I'd received in the mail, and he said he'd been seeing this monster whitetail that I could go after if I wanted to instead of taking a muley.
I guess from the pic above that you can tell how that one ending up.
Anyway, the people of Lusk were very friendly and the country was rolling plains with a few shallow mountains interspersed. The first afternoon of my hunt, I saw that big whitetail sneaking into the farm where we were set up on down along this creekbed. It was thick and once he got in there, he was gone. On the second day, we caught him coming out in the exact same spot, but I couldn't get a shot.
That afternoon, it was bright and sunny and cool and I got my muley on the top of a rocky hill after Big Al & my dad jumped him up.
The following day, we drove to Wheatland to another piece of land that was loaded with pronghorn. We had a ball glassing them, judging the bucks, then chasing them around most of the day. I finally connected with a nice buck that was working in between two large herds of does.
Please find out more about Chairbound Hunters because they're a great group and need as much support as possible. Thanks again Big Al!
